1968 European Cup Final Manchester United (Man Utd) Versus Benfica

The 1968 European Cup Final was the thirteenth European Cup Final; a club football tournament for the champions of European leagues. The match was held at Wembley Stadium and was between Manchester United of England and Benfica of Portugal. Manchester United beat the Portuguese champions 4–1 after extra time. Man Utd win meant that they became the first English team to win the European Cup. This was just a year after Celtic had become the first British team to do so.

The win was fairly remarkable because it marked the culmination of Manchester United’s ten years of rebuilding after the 1958 Munich air disaster, in which 8 players had been killed and manager Matt Busby had been left fighting for his life. Two players that survived the crash Captain Bobby Charlton and Bill Foulkes both played in the game.

The design of the kit is there to ignite interest in a team and it has provided the football fans with something that is creative and a spectacle. The moment a player steps on the pitch you would always register how colourful and decorative the football kit is even before the player shows off his talent. Football kit, shirts in particular, have become sort after commodities for fans world wide.
From toddlers to adults alike they show off the shirt of their favourite team – it is as though some kind of powerful statement emanates from it. The popularity of the football shirt has resulted in it becoming a pillar of fashion and it has certainly added a fashion statement to street wear. Many different kinds have invaded the market through the years but many fans, typically the older generation, favour the classic or retro football shirts as they are known.

3. Holland 1960 All orange with long sleeves. House of Orange Lion Rampant badge printed in black
The Dutch lost two World Cup finals despite a host of great players, but the kit was a winner.
4. Manchester City Away 1969 Red and black stripes with black trim. Long sleeves and crew-neck. City of Manchester coat of arms badge with “”M.C.F.C”" above and “”WEMBLEY 1969″” enscrolled below. Fully embroidered. City won FA Cup and League Cup finals at Wembley disguised as AC Milan.
5. Manchester United 1960s Royal blue with matching trim. Long sleeves. City of Manchester coat-of-arms badge with”"ECF”" above and “”WEMBLEY 1968″” below. Worn by Man Utd in their successful 1968 European Cup Final.
6. Juventus Classic white and black striped, crew-neck, long sleeves, black trim. Badge features Italian flag motif – fully embroidered in shield style. This club has always had some decent outfits tucked away.
7. Republic of Ireland 1960 Green – long sleeves, crew-neck with white trim. Classic shamrock applique badge in shield style. Fully embroidered.
8. Russia 1960 Home Shirt Red, long sleeves with white trim, CCCP across chest.
9. Sweden 1960′s Home Shirt Yellow – long sleeves, V-neck with blue trim. Sweden flag badge fully embroidered.
10. Wolves Classic Shirt Crew-neck, long sleevs, gold shirt with black trim. Embroidered with a Wolf over linked WW. As worn by Dougan, Richards and Hibbert.

Sir Alex Ferguson Celebrates 25 Years

This weekend marks Ferguson’s 25 years at Man Utd, an achievement that quite rightly provokes admiration from football fans around the world. He conceded that this was his ‘fairytale’. Not bad considering he just escaped being sacked after 3 years in the job.
